Release Recap: “I Will Remember”

“I Will Remember” came out two weeks ago and it’s been so incredible to see everyone’s responses, messages, comments, and emails in response to the song. I feel privileged that so many of you have chosen to share your own personal stories with me. It feels like this song has become a bridge between all of us who have been impacted in some way by this horrible disease.

Me and Grandma at my wedding.

For those who don’t know, “I Will Remember” was written for my grandma who is currently battling Alzheimer’s Disease. My dad called me one day emotional about a conversation he recently had with his mother, my grandma. She was still in the early stage of her diagnosis, but he knew it wouldn’t be long before she progressed further. It was important to him that she knew how much he loved her and that he thought she was the best mom in the world. My dad shared with me the pain he felt knowing what grandma would go through and the hard toll it would take on him and his sisters. Because of that, he wanted to get closure with her before she could forget who he was.

Last April, my friend, Mark Elliott, and I got together at his home out in the woods on a beautiful sunny day, and crafted the song. While writing the song with Mark, we shared our own stories and experiences with Alzheimers and dementia. It was easy to find the heart of the song, because it was mirrored after our own feelings.

I was able to play the song for Grandma and my dad and his sisters last summer. Now, you all are playing the song for you and your loved ones. I truly hope that it helps heal some of the pain and sorrow so many of us are all too familiar with. “I Will Remember” is an open letter to my grandma whom I love so dearly.

As a reminder, I have partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association to raise awareness and funds to hopefully find a cure. You can read more about my journey with the organization in my past newsletters. I have set a goal to raise $5000 for their Longest Day campaign. We are off to a strong start with donations coming in from Facebook and through t-shirt sales.

Please consider donating directly to our goal and purchasing an “I Will Remember” lyrics t-shirt. All proceeds from these shirts go directly to the fundraiser. Many sizes are still available today.

Also, I will be hosting a special Nashville Songwriter’s Round at The Listening Room Cafe in Downtown Nashville on June 24th. The night will be fully dedicated to the Longest Day, where ticket sales, in person donations, and t-shirt sales will all go to the fundraiser. I’ll be sharing more details across all my socials and here as we get closer to the event.
